This short lecture and workshop course is intended for synthetic organic and organometallic chemists and will describe how to apply modern NMR methods to the characterization of compounds in solution. The emphasis will be on how to apply and run the experiments discussed. The lectures will introduce how to apply and interpret 1D and 2D techniques to establish connectivity in, and hence the structure of, molecules. The lectures will be followed by practical

workshops in which participants will be taught how to perform, process and interpret the results of these experiments.

讲座人介绍

Jonathan Iggo (JAI) is internationally recognized for his work in high resolution NMR studies of functional chemical systems, particularly his studies of organometallic catalysts mechanisms. He is regularly asked to contribute to has contribute review and “how to” articles on NMR, e.g. to The Encyclopaedia of Inorganic Chemistry and to Modern NMR Techniques for Synthetic Chemistry. He ran the NMR Service at the University of Liverpool for many years and is a member of the Management Committee of the RCUK Very-High Field NMR Facility for the Physical and Life Sciences located at the NMR Centre for Structural Biology at the University of Liverpool.

JAI has collaborated internationally with groups from Asia, the US, and Europe as well as other UK groups applying his unique NMR and HR-MAS instrumentation to the in situ identification of reaction intermediates and mechanisms and soft matter. His work on the mechanism of the Lucite ALPHA process was crucial to the successful commercialization of the process. His current research focuses on magnet resonance chemical shift imaging (CSI) of chemical and biological systems.
